Why You Should Mark Leader Appreciation Day (How Recognizing Your Boss Benefits Everyone)

Okay, so, “Leader Appreciation Day” was a thing at work, and I gotta say, it turned out to be more fun than I expected. I mean, showing appreciation to the bosses? It’s not something we usually think about, right?

Why You Should Mark Leader Appreciation Day (How Recognizing Your Boss Benefits Everyone)

It all started a couple of weeks ago. I saw this memo about appreciating our leaders. I thought, “Why not?” We all know the importance of a good boss, how they make or break your work life. So, I decided to get involved.

First things first, I needed to figure out what to do. A simple “thank you” seemed too, you know, basic. I brainstormed a bit, thought about what makes our team lead, Sarah, really great. She’s always there to guide us, gives us room to grow, and somehow manages to keep her cool even when things get crazy. I remembered a line I read somewhere, “They can be trusted. A great manager exhibits personal and professional integrity and takes responsibility for their own mistakes.” It really resonated with me, especially thinking about Sarah.

So, I went with a heartfelt card. I know, it sounds a bit old-school, but hear me out. I found this simple yet elegant card and started writing. I didn’t want it to be some generic message, so I wrote about a specific time when Sarah’s support really made a difference for me on a tough project. I mentioned how her encouragement and trust in my abilities helped me push through. I tried to express how much I valued her leadership style, which is all about lifting the team up and not just focusing on her own success. I wrote that “Your encouragement and support are greatly appreciated. Just wanted to say thank you for being a great manager.”

I also got the team involved. We decided to chip in and get her a small gift, something we knew she’d appreciate. It was a nice desk plant, a little bit of green to brighten up her workspace. We all signed the card, adding our little notes of thanks.

On the actual day, we surprised Sarah with the card and the plant. She was genuinely touched, which was really nice to see. It wasn’t just about the gift, but the fact that we took the time to acknowledge her efforts. It felt good to show our appreciation, and I think it meant a lot to her, too.

The whole experience was pretty rewarding. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to appreciate the people who make our work lives better. It wasn’t just about making Sarah feel good, it did something for us, the team, too. There’s this sense of positivity now, a bit more camaraderie, I guess. I read this quote, “Recognizing your boss’s leadership and support is not only a kind gesture but also reinforces a positive work environment.” And I realized it’s totally true.

It made me think about how important it is to express gratitude, not just to our bosses but to everyone around us. It’s not just about being polite; it actually changes the vibe, you know? It makes things better, more positive. Another quote I found in a blog was,”Your mindset changes. It’s not natural for many of us to look actively for the good things.” It makes me realize that this appreciation thing is something I want to do more often, not just on special days.

So, that was my experience with Leader Appreciation Day. It was a small thing, really, but it made a big difference. I learned that taking a moment to say “thank you” can go a long way. It’s a simple act, but it can have a pretty big impact, both on the person you’re appreciating and on yourself. I hope that we will continue to appreciate each other in the future. If every day is an appreciation day, that would be much better!
