Surprise Birthday Invitation Message Tips & Examples

Okay, so I wanted to throw a surprise birthday party for my best friend, Sarah. The first thing I did was thinking about how to make the invitation really special and, you know, surprising. I didn’t want it to be just a regular text message.

I started by brainstorming some fun themes. Sarah loves the 80s, so I thought, “Why not make it an 80s themed surprise?” This would give me a good starting point for the invitation’s wording and design.

Crafting the Perfect Message

Next, I started to play around with the wording. Here’s what I did:

  • Kept it a secret: I emphasized that it was a surprise, using phrases like “Shhh… it’s a surprise!” and “Don’t spill the beans!”
  • Built anticipation: I dropped hints about a “totally rad” party without revealing the actual occasion. I wanted her to be curious but not immediately guess it was a birthday party.
  • Included essential details: I made sure to include the date, time, and location, but in a playful way. I wrote something like “Get ready to party like it’s 1985 on [Date] at [Time] at [Location].”
  • Added a personal touch: I included an inside joke that only Sarah and I would understand, to make her feel special and loved. I wrote down the word “big hair” and “leg warmers” and put the time and date.

After some back and forth I had to rewrite the whole invitation from scratch about three times, it was finally came together!

Finally, I sent out the invitations, making sure to emphasize again how important it was to keep it a surprise. And, to make things even better, I asked everyone to dress up in their best 80s attire!
