I hope you had a good vacation: Plus Easy Conversation Starters

So, I saw this phrase, “I hope you had a good vacation,” and I thought, hmm, how can I actually use this in a fun, practical way? Let’s try something!

I hope you had a good vacation: Plus Easy Conversation Starters

The Plan

I decided to use this phrase as a starting point for a little email experiment. My idea? Send out a bunch of emails to old contacts, people I haven’t talked to in ages, just to see what would happen.

Getting Started

First, I dug up my old email address book. You know, the one gathering digital dust? Yeah, that one. I found a bunch of addresses from old classmates, former coworkers, even some distant relatives.

Crafting the Email

Then I crafted a simple email. I started with the line”i hope you had a good vacation”, and I just wrote a few sentences about what I’d been up to, nothing fancy. I kept it casual and friendly, like I was just catching up with an old friend.

  • Subject: Catching Up!
  • Body: Hey [Name]! I hope you had a good vacation. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I was just thinking about [shared memory or connection] the other day, and it made me wonder how you’re doing…

Sending it Out

I copied and pasted the email, changing the name and a few details for each person. I hit send on, like, 20 emails. Then, I just…waited.

The Results

Honestly, the responses were pretty interesting!

  • Some people didn’t reply at all. Oh well.
  • A few sent back short, polite responses.
  • But some people really opened up! They told me about their lives, their families, their jobs. I even reconnected with a couple of old friends, and we’re planning to grab coffee soon.

It was a super simple thing, starting with that “I hope you had a good vacation” line, but it actually led to some real connections. You never know what might happen when you reach out to people, even if it’s just with a simple email. Kind of cool, right?
