How to properly say thank you for your hospitality during our visit, plus some ideas to make your gratitude clear.

Today, I wanna talk about something that happened recently. I went on a trip with my family, and we stayed at my friend, Jack’s, place. You know, it’s one of those things where you’re super grateful for someone’s hospitality, but finding the right words can be a bit tricky. So, here’s how I went about expressing my thanks to Jack for having us.

How to properly say thank you for your hospitality during our visit, plus some ideas to make your gratitude clear.

First off, I sent a text message to Jack right after we left. I kept it simple and heartfelt. Something like, “Hey Jack, just wanted to say a massive thank you for letting us crash at your place. We had a blast!” I figured this was a good start – immediate and casual.

Follow-Up Email

A few days later, I followed up with an email. I thought it would be nice to go into a bit more detail. I wrote about how much we enjoyed our stay and how their hospitality made our trip extra special. I also mentioned a specific thing we loved – like, “The kids are still talking about the awesome game night we had.” It’s always good to bring up a happy memory.

  • Here’s a snippet of what I wrote:
  • “Dear Jack and family, I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your hospitality during our recent visit. Your kindness made our trip truly memorable.”
  • “We really enjoyed the time spent at your lovely home. It was so comfortable and welcoming, and we felt right at home. Your warm hospitality really made a difference.”

Handwritten Note

Then, because I’m a bit old-school, I also sent a handwritten thank-you note. There’s just something about a physical note that feels more personal, you know? I picked out a nice card and wrote a message similar to the email but a bit shorter. I made sure to mention how much we appreciate their friendship and the effort they put into making our stay enjoyable. I added that we really enjoyed the delicious meals they had prepared for us.

Small Gift

Along with the note, I included a small gift. Nothing too fancy, just a little something to show our appreciation. I remembered Jack mentioned he loves coffee, so I got him a bag of specialty coffee beans. I wrapped it up nicely and hoped he would like it.

Social Media Shout-Out

And finally, I gave them a shout-out on social media. I posted a picture from our trip and tagged Jack, thanking him for being such an amazing host. I figured it’s a nice way to publicly acknowledge their hospitality and share our good experience with our friends.

So, that’s how I handled saying thank you for the hospitality during our visit. It was a mix of immediate, personal, and thoughtful gestures. I really believe that showing gratitude is super important, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Just genuine and from the heart.

What about you guys? How do you usually express your thanks when someone hosts you?
