Okay, so, I just threw an engagement party and, of course, now comes the fun part – writing thank you notes. Sounds simple enough, right? But, oh boy, when you actually sit down to do it, it’s a whole other story. I really wanted to make these notes special, not just some generic “thanks for coming” stuff.

First things first, I gathered all my supplies. I picked out some cute, simple notecards. I grabbed a couple of nice pens, because, you know, handwriting matters. Then I made a list of everyone who came and any gifts they brought. Seemed organized enough at first.
Then the actual writing began. I decided I wanted to mention something specific about each person or couple, to make it personal. For the folks who brought gifts, I started by thanking them for the specific gift and how much we appreciated it. For those who didn’t, I thanked them for coming and celebrating with us. I just wanted to make sure everyone felt appreciated. Simple enough?
Trying to Be Personal
- For my Aunt Carol, who brought that amazing homemade quilt, I wrote something like, “Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt! It’s so cozy and we can’t wait to use it. Your thoughtfulness means the world to us.”
- For my friend, Jake, who didn’t bring a gift but was the life of the party, I wrote, “Thanks so much for coming and making the party so much fun! Your energy was contagious and we loved having you there.”
I tried my best to keep it short and sweet, but also genuine. I didn’t want to just ramble on, but I also didn’t want to sound cold or generic. I wanted each note to express how I really felt. It was tough trying to be creative and write so many of them and I just wanted to get them done. But I pressed on because I knew how nice it is to get a thank you.
After I wrote each note, I double-checked the addresses and made sure I hadn’t made any spelling mistakes. I even had my fiancĂ© look over a few to make sure they sounded okay. It was a way bigger chore than I expected!
Finally, I sealed them all up, stuck on the stamps, and dropped them in the mailbox. It felt good to get that done. Hopefully, everyone will appreciate the effort. It’s just a little gesture, but I think it goes a long way.
And that’s that! Just wanted to share the struggle and the satisfaction of writing those notes. Maybe it’ll help someone else out there going through the same thing. Trust me, it’s worth it in the end, even though your hand might be cramping by the time you’re done!
