I saw something online today that got me thinking about my old dog, Buddy, who’s no longer with us. It was about writing a thank you note to a pet who’s passed away. I thought it was a cool idea, so I decided to give it a shot.

First, I grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. I sat down at my desk, where I used to work with Buddy always by my side. It felt a bit weird without him there, but it also felt right to write this letter in that spot.
I started writing, just letting the words flow. I thanked Buddy for being my best friend. I wrote about how much I missed our walks in the park, playing fetch, and even just chilling on the couch together. He was always there, no matter what.
- I remembered how he used to greet me at the door with his tail wagging like crazy.
- I recalled all the times he cheered me up when I was feeling down.
- And I couldn’t forget how he always knew when I needed a cuddle.
It wasn’t easy to write it all down. I got pretty emotional, not gonna lie. I even shed a few tears thinking about all the good times we had. It felt like I was saying goodbye all over again, but in a good way, you know?
After I finished writing, I read the letter out loud. It felt good to express all those feelings. I folded the letter and put it in a special box where I keep some of Buddy’s things, like his old collar and his favorite toy.
What I did
This whole thing might sound a bit silly, writing a thank you note to a dog who’s gone. But honestly, it helped me a lot. It was like a way to honor Buddy’s memory and all the joy he brought into my life. So, if you’ve lost a pet, maybe give it a try. It might help you too.
